The Polynesian Resort is widely recognized as one of the very first of the indoor water parks in the country (the other being the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, MI).
When weekend occupancy skyrocketed for the owner of the Polynesian in 1994 after adding a water squirting 'gizmo' to his indoor pool, the hotel industry quickly took notice.
Within a year, the Wilderness Resort followed suit beginning the rapid expansion of Wisconsin Dells indoor water parks which now includes nearly 20 hotels and resorts.
Local residents and visitors to the Dells are now flocking, year-round, to the water park resorts (many of which have 'outdoor' water parks, as well).
You will find in this list several smaller hotels with indoor water park-like facilities. Most of these will be very small with just a few added attractions (such as a small slide or tree fort), but they offer a less-expensive alternative to the many high priced resorts in the area.
